LOL

My grades skyrocketed at Michigan State when I started bringing a laptop with me.

I’m clearly very old, because in almost all of my college classes, if you broke out a laptop during class, you were asked to leave.

When I was in college, some people used their laptop computers to take notes, the people checking facebook used their pocket computers. But maybe they used their laptops to check facebook too, but I think that wasn’t as common because everybody behind you could see your screen.

Laptops are pretty common place now because of how much shit is online, even for physical classes. Since most classes have online only assignments on a web service that requires a $200 code (Or free if you buy the book brand new for $300 lol) Plus it normally includes a E-book. So people will just use that instead of a physical text book.

Hahaha.

I was at MSU from 04-08. When I got there a few people brought laptops to class. When I left, all of us had laptops in class.

Several classes I took recently only offered the books in e-book format. They gave you the great deal of only charging $200 instead of $225 for the book. Then when the term ended you couldn’t sell it back for that sweet $2 offer from the bookstore.

The other way some colleges in my area are going is they get “custom” texts from the publisher. Basically, they get them without a binding and including only half the book. That way you have to buy one for Econ 1 and another for Econ 2 instead of buying one book that’s used for both. Naturally they’re $100 each compared to $150 for the single book that covered both.

College text books are such an insulting racket. McGraw-Hill deserves more scrutiny than dieselgate.

I know, it amazes me that in all the speeches I’ve heard and stories I’ve read about student loan debt I have never heard the ridiculous cost of textbooks brought up.

A full time student could easily spend $1000 dollars a term on books.
